By Michael K. Browne, Assistant Director – Complaint Investigations
The Minneapolis Commission on Civil Rights held its monthly meeting on March 19, 2012—a beautiful, unseasonably warm spring day. No longer deterred by cold weather, meeting attendees were packed into the Martin Luther King, Jr. Conference Room in City Hall, looking (and most likely feeling) relaxed and casual.
The Commission reported good news and had several exciting updates: the announcement of their upcoming KAFI show, the launch of a soon to be new Facebook page, and the reintroduction of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Member of the Year Award. The Commission Chair ~ Emily Froehle, Esq. ~ gave a brief orientation on the Appeals Committee for new Commission members [the Appeals Committee reviews “no probable cause” findings and decide whether the complaint warrants further investigation]. The meeting ended with a general sense of accomplishment and a readiness for the group to move forward in 2012 to tackle this year’s challenges.
Please feel free to attend the next Commission meeting which will be held on Monday, April 16, 2012 at 6:00 p.m. in the City Hall Martin Luther King, Jr. Conference Room.
