On February 27, 2012, the Minneapolis Commission on Civil Rights (“MCCR”) elected its 2012 Executive Committee. The election took place in the formal Martin Luther King Jr. Conference Room, in City Hall at 6:00 p.m. and was facilitated by the previous Chair, Michelle Monteiro. The conference room was full with a group of Commissioners eager to select the new Executive Committee. A small passionate group of community members were also present and anxious to see the results of the election.
With ballots signed and results tallied, Emily J. Froehle accepted her new role as Commission Chair. By a unanimous vote, Jennifer Thompson was chosen to be Vice Chair. Shortly after, Bernadette Casey was elected to serve as the Treasurer. Lonnie Nichols was re-elected to serve as Secretary of the Commission. The election meeting concluded with the formation of committees. The key to the Department’s success rests in leaders like these Commissioners who embody the spirit of our mission.
Equally important to mention, the Department has hired a new Commission Liaison, Lee Zutz. Lee comes to us from St. Cloud State University where she received a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management and a Master’s degree in Public and Non-profit Institutions. As Commission Liaison, Lee will assist the Commission by scheduling meetings, gathering and preparing materials, and facilitating the Commission process. Please join me in welcoming Lee to our team!
Please feel free to attend the next Commission meeting which will be held on Monday, March 19, 2012 in the City Hall Martin Luther King, Jr. Conference Room at 6:00 p.m.
